ABOUT US
We are the Oriental Laboratory of the Innovation Foundation for Democracy, a dynamic Pan-African organization at the forefront of research, education, and knowledge production on substantive democracy. Our regional focus spans Kenya, Tanzania, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. We are based at the headquarters of our host and strategic partner, the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ-Kenya), in Nairobi, Kenya.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are seeking two (2) accomplished consultants to design a comprehensive, contextually relevant, and youth-accessible training manual on democracy and legal activism, targeting members of civil society organizations (CSOs) across East Africa.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design a training manual on democracy and legal activism tailored to civil society actors in East Africa.
• Ensure the manual integrates legal advocacy, conflict resolution, and participatory democratic practices.
• Incorporate case studies, practical activities, and tools for advocacy and strategic litigation.
• Align learning materials with East African legal and civic contexts.
• Support post-training evaluation and validation processes.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• At least 5 years of experience designing and implementing training programs in civic education, legal empowerment, or human rights.
• Demonstrated expertise in legal activism, conflict resolution, and strategic litigation.
• Strong background in participatory training methodologies and curriculum development.
• Experience with monitoring and evaluation of training impact.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with East African civic and legal systems is highly desirable.
